Ideas For Cheap Wedding Decorations
You can create equally effective and stunning cheap wedding decorations; you just need to use your imagination. By choosing items that give you 'more band for your buck' you'll make an impression while keeping your costs down.
One sure fire way for cheap decorations is to do them yourself. Think about your own talents and what you could do. Are you creative? Could you make things? Do you have an eye for design?Well, these things are great, but they're certainly not essential. You can still have a stunning reception with cheap wedding decorations. Think how you could use some of these ideas:
Candles and lanterns Candles are a favourite for cheap wedding decorations. You can pick them up very cheaply and dotted around your venue they look stunning. The pretty light that they give off creates a very romantic subtle lighting. (Check with your venue that it’s ok to use candles first). Some ideas:
- Candles of different heights in the centre of the table – place on a plate and sprinkle with coloured beads
- Floating candles with fresh flower heads or petals
- Tealights dotted around the venue outside and inside look really pretty. They’re especially good as centrepieces too
- Spray your candles with car paint or glitter spray to match you colour theme
- Use paper lanterns inside and outside your venue
- Consider making your own lanterns from tin cans or paper templates
Cheap ideas with flowers Flowers are not usually that cheap, but some types of flowers will go make an impact. I really like large flower heads as they look more impressive and hydrangea, peonies, gerberas and lilies are some of my favourite large headed wedding flowers. They're inexpensive and make great cheap wedding decorations. Some ideas with flowers:
- Dry it out the petals and use it as confetti for your guests as you walk out of the ceremony
- Use the fresh petals as table confetti to decorate your tables
- Use the large flower heads or petals as your centrepiece in a bowl of water
- Use a simple vase with flowers. Tall flowers, such as gladioli look stunning on their own and make a very elegant decoration when dotted around the venue.
Cheap wedding decorations with paper Over the years paper has been used regularly as cheap wedding decorations, whether hanging from walls or on top of tables. Paper ideas include:
- Garlands around the venue. Wedding garland shapes include bells, horseshoes and hearts. They look great at the edge of doorways, in corners or hanging from the ceiling
- Create a topiary using tissue paper and Styrofoam. You could then hang them from the ceiling or place on a stick and plant in a plant pot. You can pick up a topiary from most craft stores or garden centers
- As an alternative to a paper based topiary you could use flower heads. Daisies and gerberas would work really well – they're large and so would be fairly inexpensive
Balloons are cheap wedding decorations For height and color, why not add balloons to your wedding reception venue? Balloons are really versatile and far more cost effective than flowers. Why not try some of these ideas:
- Dress up a dark corner with satin sheen balloons
- Create a focal point in the room with a balloon archway
- Use two or three balloons as table centrepieces
- Use several balloons tied together around the room for additional color and effect
Look to nature for ideas Looking outside at natural objects can provide a wealth of cheap wedding decorations. Plus, since they’re usually lying around in the garden, they’re pretty much free! Natural ideas include:
- Pick up shells if you live near the beach. Make sure you clean them off thoroughly to remove all the smells though. You can then use them as centrepieces
- Use branches or large twigs from the garden. The thinner, spindly branches look great when sprayed silver and draped with fairy lights. These will brighten up corners of your room or you could use mini versions as table decorations
Ideas with fabric Using fabric to decorate your wedding venue can create a rich, lavish appearance and hide a multitude of sins. From wall swags to table cloths, fabric can be used ingeniously to help decorate your venue. My favourites are:
- Use simple (and cheap) tulle as swags at the edge of your buffet or top tables as well as around doors, entrances, chairs, pillars and windows
- Cover unsightly walls and unused doors in indoor venues with fabric that matches your color theme
- Use cotton drapes across the ceiling to hide unsightly cracks, wallpaper or paint
- Tie satin or organza ribbons around plain vases, on the edge of tables and the backs of chairs to add a bit of luxury.
Use a combination of the ideas above or maybe just one. Whatever you choose you’re sure to save with these ideas cheap wedding decorations.
