Ideas For Creating Chinese Wedding Invitations

If youre having a Chinese themed wedding, Chinese wedding invitations should definitely be part of your plans. Not sure how to create invitations with a Chinese theme? Here are some ideas to get you started!

Use Chinese dingbats

You can download tons of Chinese dingbats online for your computer that you can use to create invitations. Dingbats are basically fonts that are different from the letters on your keyboard. They can be anything from fun sketches to letters from different languages to images. You can download Chinese dingbats and use them to create Chinese words on your invitations.

Some fun examples are 101! Chinese Zodiac by Nght's Place (personal use only), HFF Chinese Dragon by Have Fun with Fonts and Mahjong by BRIDGEco. All of these can be downloaded for free at fontspace.com and used on your wedding invitations.

Some of the Chinese dingbats available are traditional Chinese motifs that you can used as images on the front of your invitations. Or you could use them to separate sentences, paragraphs, or sections on your invitations. Others are actual Chinese words.

These can be fun if you want to add words like love or marriage to your invitations. If you do this, you might want to translate the words into English, as well, so that your guests know what they say. You could also download an interesting font for this maybe one that looks like traditional Chinese calligraphy but still creates English lettering.

Use Chinese images

Images from China are easy to come by on sites like istockphoto and dreamstime. You can purchase the rights to use these photos without spending a lot of money, and they can really bring your invitations to life. You could use images from the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations, picking the image that goes with the year in which youll be married. Another option is to find a traditional Chinese dragon, symbols for luck, or beautiful drawings of oriental flowers. Any of these images can make your Chinese wedding invitations beautiful.

Pattern on Chinese dress

Another option is to copy not images but motifs from the Chinese culture. Look at the beautiful dresses women wear in China. Copy some of the patterns or motifs from them. You might also look at traditional drawings and watercolor paintings from China, as they often include peaceful images of trees, cranes, and ocean waves that you could use on your invitations.

Use Chinese colors

One way to make traditional invitations look like Chinese wedding invitations without actually using Chinese characters or pictures is to use traditional colors. Dark red invitations with black or gold lettering would be most appropriate. You could also choose to use hand-drawn calligraphy in an Oriental style for your lettering.

Another option is to create scrolls for your wedding invitations. Find beautiful, delicate rice paper, and create scrolls with small wooden dowel rods attached to each end. Use calligraphy or a printer with a calligraphy font to write your invitation information. Your scrolls will look more authentic with a Chinese motif or two included. Scrolls are a little more difficult to mail, but they can give your guests a fun surprise and really set the scene for your wedding.

There are all sorts of ways to create beautiful Chinese wedding invitations.
