DIY Wedding Invitations With Silver Butterflies

These wedding invitations are really simple to make and look great. Made with wire, beads, sequins and silver, holographic butterflies they’re really easy.

The butterfly theme is really in this year and you can find it all over the bridal magazines. So if you’re going for butterflies, then these DIY wedding invitations are perfect for you. I’ve seen butterfly confetti in many different colours, so you could easily change the colours to match your wedding theme.

It’s important to set of the wired beads and butterflies, so I’ve used a square of pearlescent glittered card. I really like the way it sparkles in the light and picks up the holographic butterflies.

Don’t worry if you can’t find the exact same materials. The design is fairly flexible and will work with different beads and sequins. So mix it up to suit your style!

Finally, this card has a really neat finish. The wire is attached to the back of an A6 card which is then secured to the card blank – so you don’t see any wires or bits of sticker.

For these DIY wedding invitations you'll need

• Smooth white A5 card blank (that folds to A6)
• A6 piece of smooth white card
• 6cm square of pearlescent glitter card
• 15cm beading wire
• 10 small pearl beads
• 3 small glass beads
• 3 pearlescent sequins
• Silver pen
• Roller glue
• White sticker
• Pin or needle

Step-by-step instructions

1. First of all, take the 6cm square of glittered card and position on the A6 piece of card. I’d recommend placing it in the centre of the top two thirds of the card. When you’re happy with the position, secure in place with some roller glue.
2. Now, draw a line around the square with the silver pen. The line should about 2-3mm away from the edge of the glitter card.
3. Next, write your greeting, by hand, at the bottom of the glitter square. I’ve intentionally positioned it so its not central underneath the glitter card. I’ve written "...you’re invited to our wedding!"
4. Then take the beading wire and thread the butterflies, sequins and beads onto the wire randomly. Aim to have the butterflies in the middle. If you’ve bought butterfly confetti, these often don’t have holes in them. You can make a hole through the wing or through the centre of the butterfly with a needle or pin.



5. Position the wire around the middle A6 card so that it sits in the middle of the glitter card, but is slightly off-centre. Secure the wire ends, by using a white sticker on the back of the A6 card.


6. Finally, secure the A6 card to the card blank by using roller glue. There should be no wire sticking out as it will be protected between the A6 card and the card blank.
