![]() The inspiration for these invitations came from some jewellery I saw, where a heart had been encased in wire. I really liked it and thought I’d give it a go for these wedding invitations. Wrapping the wire around the hearts is a little tricky, but I think the end result is worth it. For these do it yourself wedding invitations I’ve used a lot of silver. The card blank, vellum, confetti heart and wire are all silver based and I think it makes them look quite serene. You could use a white card blank, but I think it would be a little bit harsh. Feel free to take the basic idea and experiment with different colours that would suit your wedding theme. At the moment, this is one of my favourite wedding invitations on Wedding Invitation Ideas. The vellum paper that’s used is really pretty and although it may go out of season, similar designs will come back. It’s from Papermania and they do a great range of lovely vellum papers, so you’ll find something that works. The basic make up of the card is the card blank, which is printed with a greeting and a topper, which you’ll need to make. Level of ease: Tricky For each do it yourself wedding invitations you’ll need: Recommended insert: Step-by-step instructions1. First of all, you need to print out the greeting on the card blank. You can use the free template below that’s been designed for an A5 card (folded to A6). The greeting is in a silver colour. You’ll need to register for the Wedding Invitation Ideas newsletter, which is completely free.2. Next, make the card topper by cutting your black card to the specified width and height. I’ve used 3cm x 10.5cm. You can cut this yourself using a cutting mat and knife or a paper trimmer. Alternatively, you could get this cut professionally along with the vellum – it’ll prevent wastage and give you a professional finish. 3. Then take the silver printed vellum paper and do the same. 4. In the centre of the black card, place a little bit of glue using the glue roller. Only use enough so the vellum can stick to the black card. The glue will show through, so it’s important to use a little, so it can be covered with the wired hearts. 5. Now take a silver heart and wrap the beading wire around it. Wrap the wire from different sides and angles so the whole heart is covered. This can be a bit fiddly, but once you’ve done a couple, you’ll get quite fast. Make sure the ends both end up on the same side of the heart – this will be the back of the wired heart. Once you’ve finished wiring the hearts, adjust the wire as necessary so that they look fairly even. 6. Then, cut your ribbon to the right length and thread it through the back of the wired hearts. 7. Place your ribbon over the glued section of the vellum and card and wrap the ends of the ribbon around the back of the vellum and card. Secure the ribbon with a sticker so that it doesn’t move. The wired hearts should cover the glue and roughly be in the centre of the topper. 8. Next attach your topper to your printed card blank. I’d suggest placing it within the top third of the invite so that it looks balanced on the front of the wedding invitation. Don’t forget for these do it yourself wedding invitations, I’ve used a wedding invitation greeting printed onto the front of the card blank. It gives a much more professional finish.
