The paper for your inserts
First of all you need to choose the type of paper you want for your free wedding invitation template.

With each of the designs in the site, I show what type of paper I use for the insert, although you can change your mind and use something else.

Once you’ve decided on your paper, I recommend that you speak to your local shop to find out if they can copy on to it. Bring them a sample to look at and they’ll be able to tell you straight away if they can put it through their machines. Most copy shops will be able to take up 180gsm in a standard copier and so can easily take vellum or parchment paper.

Now you know what paper you’re using and the copy shop has agreed to copy on to it, then you’re ready to download and print your free wedding invitation template.

Alternatively, you could print them out individually on your home printer.

Downloading and printing your insert template

Select your chosen template from the selection below and follow these instructions:
1. Click on your chosen template.
2. You'll be prompted for your username and password. The document will then automatically download. Either save it to your desktop or open it. It will open in Microsoft Word 97-2003.
3. Change the wording so it is correct for your wedding.
4. Proof read it carefully to make sure there are no mistakes. Check it for spellings carefully, particularly ceremony and venue names. It’s best to get someone else who’s not seen it before to check it as well.
5. Once you’re happy, print out your chosen free wedding invitation template on normal (80gsm) printer paper either at home, your local library or internet cafe.
6. Double check it for spelling again!
7. If you’re 100% happy, take the paper to your local copy shop and get them to copy it onto your chosen insert paper, or print it out on your preferred paper at home.
8. Then, you or the copy shop must cut the inserts to the black trim lines on the template.

By using a copy shop to copy your insert you’ll save your money on printing ink. They’ll also be able to cut the inserts to size with their professional tools – giving you a much better finish.

If you don’t have a copy shop nearby (you can find one in most towns), then print out your inserts on your home printer. Use a sharp craft knife and metal ruler to cut the along the trim lines. Make sure you place some card or plastic under the paper to use as a cutting surface and protect your table.
