Inexpensive Wedding Invitations Using Vellum and Scrapbook Card
"These pretty wedding invitations are simple to make, but look amazing!"
In these inexpensive wedding invitations we've used a simple patterned scrapbook paper as the base and then added layers of white card behind and layer of vellum on the front. The overall effect is that it's very pretty and intricate, but in fact, it's easy to make and better still, it's inexpensive.
The colours and fonts on these inexpensive wedding invitations are completely customisable, so you can match them to your chosen patterned paper.
This invitation is a free template that comes in MS Word, so you can easily print it out at home or work. I've printed this example out on white card stock. You can however print it out on any coloured card stock, so feel free to try out different colours.
What you'll need for this inexpensive wedding invitation:
- Pink vellum sheet A4
- White card
- Pink ribbon: 20cm per invite
- Patterned scrapbook paper
- Paper trimmer
- Inkjet or laser printer
- ALS Script Font (download)
With this inexpensive wedding invitation, we've included all the additional information with the invitation itself. There are four pieces of card or paper, creating eight sides. So, from the top there is:
Page 1: (vellum paper front) The first names of the couple: template provided
Page 2: (vellum paper back) Blank
Page 3: (scrapbook paper front) Blank
Page 4: (scrapbook paper back) Main invitation wording: template provided
Page 5: (white card) Directions and map: template provided
Page 6: (white card) Accommodation and gift registry information: template provided
Page 7: (white card) RSVP front: template provided
Page 8: (white card) RSVP back: template provided
Each page is 4x4 inches. So it's easy to set up in a Word document. We've already set up a template for each of the printed page. You can download them below.
The colours in the template are black, but you can change them to any colours you like. You can also change the fonts, the font size or the spacing. The templates are a guide only.
On the one I created, we used brown coloured type as it looked better with the pink colours of the scrapbook paper. I also created a favour tag and a place card. For these I scanned in the patterned scrapbook paper and then created a template for each in Word. I then printed the information directly on to self adhesive labels and then stuck the label to a luggage tag to make the favour tag and a place card. Both labels needed to be trimmed to size, but I was pleased with the results.
All in all, these were pretty inexpensive wedding invitations. They cost about £25 ($40), not including printing ink.
They're one of my favourites!
Warning!
This invitation design uses a special font. In order to see this on the wedding invitation, you'll need to download it.
The main font used for the text is called ALS Script and is free for your personal use. You can download it here.
If you don't know how to add a font to your computer, then follow these instructions (for Windows users only).

It couldn't be simpler to download and create this invitation.
- Just click on the links below to download the templates. You'll be prompted for a username and password. You received these when you confirmed your subscription to the newsletter
- If your username and password are correct, then the MS Word document will download automatically. Save it to your desktop
- Ensure you have the correct fonts saved to your computer (see above)
- When you have your templates, set them up with your wording. Do a test print out to check that the text on the front and the back are centred. It's also good at this stage to cut along the trim lines and make sure that the front and back are ok.
- Start with the vellum top: page 1. This is one page that prints out onto your vellum sheet.
- Then set up your next template: page 4. This page has your wedding invitation wording on it. This is printed on to the white side of your scrapbook paper. If your scrapbook paper is 12x12, then cut it down to A4 first (210mm x 297mm). (Just so you know, page 2 is the back of the vellum, page 3 is the patterned side of the scrapbook paper).
- Next set up page 5 and 6. These are the details pages and include directions, map, accommodation and gift information. This can be printed out onto white card.
- Finally, set up your RSVP template and print that out onto white card.
- You'll then need to trim all of these separate sheets to 4x4 inches. Use the grey trim lines as a guide.
- Bring together one whole invite (4 pieces of paper/card) and punch a hole in the corner.
- Tie them together using the pink ribbon. We tied a knot, but you can tie it anyway you please.
