Wedding Invitation Fonts and Dings

First of all, that's not a typo. I did mean to write 'wedding invitation fonts and dings'.

So, I hear you ask, what is a ding? Well, it's a little graphic that is used like a font and when you start to discover these, you'll discover a wonderful world of fantastic illustrations that you can use for your wedding invitations, card making and scrapbooking.

Dings, or dingbats, are frequently used by designers, but they're generally a well kept secret. The range and quality varies, but more often that not, if you're looking for some sort of illustration, you'll usually find it in a dingbat. If I'm still talking gobbledegook, then you can find out exactly what a dingbat is and see a range of different dingbat illustrations for use on wedding invitations.

When coupled with a fancy font, your dingbat can create a stunning piece of graphic design. So if you've got a little bit of imagination and a computer, you can easily create your own unique wedding invitations from scratch. And it really is very simple; you can even do it in Microsoft Word.

With home computers there are number of pre-installed fonts. Many of these aren't very exciting, although some are good for invitations. To jazz up your invites, you're going to need to get hold of some more fonts. But worry not, there are hundreds of free fonts available on the web.

Where I've used a font that isn't a standard font in one of my designs, I'll give you a link to where I got it from. In all cases they're free for personal use (which we like). If you're using dingbats and special fonts together, you should consider your layout. It's easy to overload the invitation ending up with a dogs dinner which is pretty unreadable, so take care with your layout and think about your wedding invitation design carefully.
