Every time a new design or pattern comes out it gives me lots of inspiration to make more wedding invitations! ![]() There are literally hundreds of different types of paper for card making – all of which are suitable for wedding invitations. Basically, any scrapbooking paper, decorative paper or patterned paper can be used. There’s more about information about paper for card making here. Not only can you use paper from your local art and craft store, you can also use wrapping and gift paper. There are loads of pretty designs around, especially for weddings and a sheet or two of wrapping paper will go a long way very cost effectively. You could always create your own special wedding invitation paper using some free software for card making and of course a bit of imagination! You can then print out your designs on your home printer and create unique wedding invitations. The moral here is don’t be limited by what you find in your local arts and crafts store! Inspiration (and paper) is all around us! Card blanks make easy wedding invitations![]() The easiest way to create your own wedding invitations is to use card blanks. These are literally pre-made cards, ready to go. Once you’ve added your decoration, design or embellishments, you simply fold (along the pre-scored fold) and pop them in an envelope. You can buy these in packs with envelopes, usually in quantities of 50 or 100. The bumper packs of 50 A6 cards with envelopes are £4.99 in my local arts and craft store. Alternatively, you could buy individual cards and separate envelopes from some online stores - it’s only if you want a special style of invitation that I’d recommend this route. (Most of the cards on this site have been made with A6 cards from one of these bumper packs.) ![]() Card blanks come in all card types - from hammered (textured) paper to silky smooth and sizes (square, tall, A6 and postcard). They also come in a range of different types of fold, each creating a different look to your invitations. There are also a good range of colours and finishes to wedding invitation paper, so you can easily match your theme. Most pre-made card blanks come in a generous weight – around 220gsm. This is sturdy enough to carry any embellishments, whilst giving a quality professional finish. You can get heavier weight card and paper - use up to 300gsm for a professional looking card. There’s more about wedding invitation paper and card stock here. Personally, I prefer card blanks to making cards from scratch. The range of colours and types of card available mean you can match any wedding theme. They’re the simplest and easiest route to go. You then don’t have to worry about cutting your card to size, scoring the card for a neat fold or worry about any measuring. If you do decide that you want to make your cards completely from scratch - consider using a copy shop for a professional finish. Wedding invitation envelopesAs mentioned above, card blanks come often come in different sizes, so you’ll need envelopes to fit them. If you’re buying a pack of cards then they’ll come with envelopes, however if you’ve chosen individual cards, then you’ll need to buy envelopes as well. You can even make your wedding invitation envelopes unique by adding a token of your wedding theme to it. Why not check out some of these ideas for unique wedding envelopes?
