Wedding Invitation Wording and Inserts

Wedding invitation wording and the etiquette around it can be baffling. It's not everyday we create a formal (or informal) wedding invitation! These days, there are many different types of wording you can use, particularly since the family unit has changed, you may want to make reference to a deceased parent or you may want a modern approach.

Script

Modern or traditional wording

Depending on the type and style of wedding invitation you choose, will depend on the wording you choose. If you’ve chosen a modern style wedding invitation, then you’ll probably prefer modern style wording and contemporary wedding invitation wording fonts (style of lettering).

If you prefer a more traditional look, then your wording will be more formal and the font more elaborate, like a old style script.

Deciding on the host

Once you've chosen a modern or traditional approach, you'll need to determine who is hosting the wedding. This can be decided by who is paying for the wedding or where it is being hosted.

Obviously, these days, this can lead to numerous scenarios as sometimes both sets of parents contribute and sometimes the bride and groom pay for it all. Once you've made the decision, it's probably best to check with both sets of parents as you wouldn't want to cause any friction!

Creating your wedding invitation insert

Once you’ve decided upon your wording and font, you need to create your insert to go inside your invite. Usually these are slips of paper that sit inside the card and invite the guest to the wedding. You can print or copy this wording directly onto the card, but using a quality paper as a separate piece gives a much better finish to your wedding invitation.

There are some free wedding invitation insert templates here to make it easy for you. Just follow the simple instructions.

Choosing the right wedding invitation font
